This version of the classic tale is an absolute joy to read, and a great way to take all the intimidation out of iambic pentameter. I would highly recommend McElroy's version as a way to introduce young folks (or older folks ) to a form of verse at least as old as Chaucer :)What really makes this version and the style it's written in so very accessible is the presence and realness of the characters. You know this story, and you think you know these characters. McElroy re-imagines them in such a way that they are truly timeless. I was lulled by the familiarity of the sequence of events, and shaken out of that lull by the sharp, witty, and sometimes very tongue in cheek reality of these characters playing out the classic tale in a classic style with such modern sensibilities. The writing (and the characters as a result) is very clever and very aware. McElroy has clearly spent a lot of time living with this story and has made it his own. It is fun, funny, and has Cinderella and Prince Charming dealing with and reacting to their circumstances with just a bit of an edge. It's so refreshing :)
The tale is familiar, the style is familiar, but together, McElroy makes bedtime reading magic that seems very, very new. In future I hope I see another edition of McElroy's version with illustrations :)

Better than the movie. Did a wonderful job of putting in all the details and did not make it to long. Can't wait to see Moses and the beach.

The writer of this piece is a very good poet.He obviously has a lot of inspiration. He has been able to tell the story of Cinderella in a very interesting and poetic way. It has a natural flow and rhymes don't come across as forced. I think anyone that loves the story would like reading it told in a this poetic way. I bought it and instantly read it and enjoyed it very much. Like most women I love the Cinderella fairy Tail. I tried to find if Michael Jason McElroy has written any other fairy tails but I couldn't find any. PS I liked his little induction to the Muse. It sets it up perfectly!
It wasn't what I expected. To be written in verse with a classic spin of the fairy tale that we all know was such a surprise. It made me reconsider the story that I thought that I knew so well. I really appreciated the character development, especially in the beginning. I learned how Cinder-Ella received her name. It's these little details that had a lasting impact. I have found myself sharing these tidbits with friends as I recommend this story to them. It even became the subject around the dinner table. It's such a rare approach, I must recommend that you read it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
This version of Cinderella is addicting. Of course, I've always loved the familiar tale of Cinderella, but this one caught my imagination to such a degree that I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read it to my Grandson. It's a wonderful way to introduce poetic verse to a young one with a familiar story that they can easily follow. This is one way that I can share my love of poetry with my grandson. The instructions said to read only a few Cantos at a time. . . too hard to do. All I wanted to do was keep reading. You won't be disappointed with this classic tale in a classic form.
I love the story of Cinderella and I think Michael Jason McElroy did a great job of making the story flow and to tell it with just slight changes to the original tale. I liked it and think it was a good breather between other books I had just read. I love my fairy tales and Cinderella has always been one of my favorites.

I literally could not put this book down, and I can't wait until my daughter is old enough so I can read it to her. I would not be surprised if this ends up on educational reading lists in the foreseeable future. Bravo!
What a fun book. It's the classic tale of Cinderella but in verse. Very poetic. Sure, it's a tale that children will enjoy, but it's also a book that adults will enjoy as they read it to children. It's literary and yet an easy read. I personally enjoyed the Miss Millicent character. Her follies were amusing and the detail about Cinderella plucking her mustache, hilarious! If you want to share a great memory with your chid(ren) then turn off the t.v. and read them a bedtime story.
